The True Sounds of Summer
For anyone living in Chatham, there is a specific combination of sounds that defines the summer season. It is the crash of the ocean surf, the call of the gulls, and the sharp crack of a wood bat echoing from Veterans Field.
We are officially days away from the return of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The Chatham Anglers are back on the diamond, and whether you are a lifelong resident or spending your first summer in town, catching a game is the absolute heartbeat of our community.
The Magic of Veterans Field
First established as a home for baseball back in 1923, Veterans Field recently underwent a massive diamond resurfacing project to keep the facilities pristine for the athletes and fans.
What makes Anglers games so magical is the uniquely casual atmosphere. There are no ticket gates and no stadium seating. Instead, local families and visitors arrive hours before first pitch to lay out their blankets and secure a prime viewing spot on the grassy hills surrounding the field. It is a place where young kids chase foul balls, neighbors catch up over hot dogs, and everyone gets a front row seat to see the future stars of Major League Baseball hone their craft.
The 2026 Campaign Begins
The Anglers hit the ground running with an exciting schedule under second year manager Dennis Cook, who successfully skippered Chatham to an impressive win total last year.
Mark your calendar for these key opening dates to kick off your summer:
-
Opening Night: Saturday June 13 at Bourne
-
The Big Home Opener: Sunday June 14 against Cotuit at Veterans Field with a 7:00 PM first pitch
A Powerhouse Roster to Watch
The initial roster is absolutely packed with elite talent, featuring 48 players from 20 states, Canada, and South Korea, representing 27 different colleges and universities.
Locals will be thrilled to welcome back key returning veterans, including Cape League all star pitcher Josh Swink from Liberty, shortstop Isaiah Lane from Hope International, and dominant Mississippi State right hander Duke Stone. With 13 players joining us straight from the powerful SEC conference, the level of competition at Veterans Field is going to be electric from the very first inning.
A Neighborhood Tradition
For homeowners in the downtown area and the neighborhoods looping around Veterans Field, the Anglers are a beautiful part of everyday summer life. Walking down to the field after dinner with a lawn chair in hand is what living in Chatham is all about.
If you are exploring the local real estate market this June or want to know more about the wonderful community traditions that make our village feel like home, I would love to connect. I will see you at the ballpark!
